What I Learned Today: Bread Twist-ties Tell All

I learned that the color of the twist ties on bread bags correspond with the day the bread was baked.

Each color represents a day of the week. According to Wikipedia, here is what each color means:

  • Blue – Monday
  • Green – Tuesday
  • Red – Thursday
  • White – Friday
  • Yellow – Saturday

The colors are a quick way for stores to find the older bread without having to search the bag for the sell-by date (an annoying task, if you ask me). Another way to keep track of the corresponding colors and day of the week is by thinking of them alphabetically: from B to Y. Only works if you know all the colors though.
