What I Learned Today: Lunar New Year is …

… celebrated in China, Vietnam, South Korea and … wait, not in Japan?

Nope. I learned today that Japan does not celebrate the lunar new year – at least not anymore and not officially. I can’t say why though. All that Wikipedia (dear, dear Wikipedia) offers is that the Meiji government changed the official New Year from the lunar to the Gregorian one in 1873. Is is just the Meiji government’s attempt to enter the world stage?

If anyone has an answer, lemme know! And by the way 新年快乐!
